Questions
What owners ask us before they hire us
If yours isn’t here, ask it on a first call.
01What happens on a first call?
Twenty minutes, by phone or video, with the lawyer who’d do the work. You tell us what’s going on; we tell you whether we can help, what it involves and roughly what it costs.
02Is the first call free?
Yes. It isn’t legal advice and doesn’t make us your lawyers. That starts once we both sign an engagement letter.
03How do you charge?
A fixed fee for most company setups and contract work, a monthly fee for outside counsel plans, and hourly billing with stage estimates for disputes. Every quote comes in writing first.
04Do we have to come to the office?
No. Most clients meet us by video. The office on West 9th is open for anyone who’d rather sit across a table.
05What kind of companies do you work with?
Owner-run companies, mostly under fifty people: shops, trades, restaurants, agencies, makers and early-stage startups.
06Can you help if the other side has already sued?
Yes, and quickly. Send us the papers and the date you were served; deadlines to answer are short.
07Do you take personal cases, like divorces or injuries?
No. We only do business law, and we’ll point you to someone who handles the rest.
08Is anything I tell you confidential?
Once we’re your lawyers, yes. Before then, please don’t send confidential details through the website form; tell us on the call.
Still deciding whether you need a lawyer?
That’s what the first call is for. Twenty minutes, no charge.
A first call doesn’t make us your lawyers; a signed engagement letter does.
